This Sunday at Good Shepherd 1. Prayer Service this Sunday - TopicsExpress

This Sunday at Good Shepherd 1. Prayer Service this Sunday evening at 6pm in the sanctuary (from Anne Bailey) In the final months of 2013, the Prayer ministry team started praying for and planning a new monthly Sunday evening prayer service to begin on Feb. 9 at 6-7pm. The theme is: In the Upper Room (Acts 1:13-14). The church started as a result of this upper room experience. Most great Christian revivals have been birthed in prayer and a profound understanding of the Word of God. Good Shepherd hopes to continue this tradition. Please come and bring your family, friends and prayer requests. 2. Christian Ed this Sunday will wind up our wind up to the Reformation. Well look at the life and times of Jan Huss and then sum up the problems facing the church on the Eve of the Reformation. Well also talk about the concept of Reformation in general. What does Reformation mean? What is the difference between Reformation and Revolution? or Rebellion? or Transformation? Next Sunday well take a break from Church history and spend three weeks on slavery in the bible week 1 and 2 Does the bible condone slavery? Week 3: why are we called to be slaves (douloi) of Christ? 3. You can watch the video of last Sundays sermon below, Take, Eat, This is My Body. 4. This Sundays sermon will be based on Mark 14:26-31 - Jesus prophecy that Peter will deny him and all the rest of his followers will fall away. Jesus knows their failures beforehand but they are not so sure hes right. Ill reference the following texts in the sermon: John 13:33-38 Psalm 118:22-23, 27 Zechariah 13:7-9 Isaiah 53:6-10 5. Creation v. Evolution I know some of you (along with more than a million others Im told) watched the online debate between creationist Ken Ham and Bill Nye the Science Guy...the debate was disappointing in several respects but also brought up a number of important things for Christians to consider as our nation increasingly rejects biblical Christianity. I wrote two articles this week for Stand Firm on the debate. The first deals with the debate itself and some of the problems I saw with it. standfirminfaith/?/sf/page/31113 The second, entitled, Enduring Scorn with Ken Ham deals with the aftermath of the debate and what various Christian responses might tell us about ourselves. standfirminfaith/?/sf/page/31116 Hope you all have a fantastic evening and weekend
