This Tamil folk song Vara Vara Poochandi took me down memory lanes - TopicsExpress

This Tamil folk song Vara Vara Poochandi took me down memory lanes to the good old days in which my attempts to acquire ability to read and understand a language spoken by the neighbours in the border village turned a huge success. In those days I was able to read many stories for kids in Tamil and some of them revolved around Poochandi. When I asked my neighbours about the meaning of Poochandi, people said it was an equivalent of `Pey, vaguely translated as Ghost. In Tamil Nadu, Poochandi is legendary and a very familiar one for kids in the state. Experts say just uttering the word Poochandi would help turn unruly little deviants as living examples of unquestioning obedience. Normally, mothers use the character in abundance to keep their kids disciplined. Uses are many and they include stopping the kids from crying, eating food without force and sleeping in time. But the Poochandi in the animation accompanying this song is not a scaremonger. My son Nihal said after seeing the video that he would not scare Poochandi anymore. Needs to find somebody more powerful. https://youtube/watch?v=gALB-ROpQLg
