This Tennessee & Alabama railway freight depot was likely built - TopicsExpress

This Tennessee & Alabama railway freight depot was likely built sometime around 1859, as part of a complex of buildings to house the cash crops, goods, and store ready to be sent out for mass market in the early days of rail. This structure is one of the few antebellum train related constructions left in the mid south. This sign of progress of kiln hewn brick would see young and old leave for war in 1861, the 1st battle at Franklin in April of 1863 when Confederate cavalry and local guard fought with Federal troops approaching the town after the fall of Nashville and the clash at Murfreesboro. It would see the enemy set camp on the high ground opposite the river near Fort Granger and the shipment of supplies and munitions to the occupation. It would, in time see the return of Southern sons returning from that war, broken and beaten, but with dignity. Yes, this old building would much hold more history in view in the 149 years since then.. The story that must be told!
