This War of Mine may very well be the most brutal video game Ive ever played in my life. It is war as lived through the eyes of civilian survivors as made by Eastern European game developers who have lived through similar experiences. It is the anti-COD; there are no massive shoot-outs, no diving and dodging enemy mercenaries, no thrilling heroics. It is just stark, haunting, focuses on the simple acts of surviving, and inevitably leads to, as far as I can tell, no sort of happy ending at all. In fact, over the course of having played a few reset rounds of it, I dont think Ive ever played a game that gave me such a feeling of unease and darkness involved. There doesnt seem to be any positive outcome from this game... save that it will make you think about the harsh realities of survival. And it is absolutely brilliant and highly recommended.
