This Wednesday, an openly gay member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives was shut down in the middle of a speech commemorating the SCOTUS ruling on DOMA — because he was in violation of God’s law, according to a GOP lawmaker. Rep. Brian Sims (D-Philadelphia) was interrupted by Rep. Daryl Metcalfe during the speech praising the landmark rulings, by way of a procedural maneuver that’s not too commonly used. “I did not believe that as a member of that body that I should allow someone to make comments such as he was preparing to make that ultimately were just open rebellion against what the word of God has said, what God has said, and just open rebellion of God’s law,” Metcalfe explained. (Evidently, Rep. Metcalfe forgot where he was. When will the Republican party across the entire nation get a spine and reclaim their party from TEApublicans?)
