This Wednesdays new poem, *lost it in chicago*: I could have left it somewhere along the way in one spot or in pieces their edges smoothed and dulled by moments fleeing swift through imperfect fingers perhaps I lost it by lawrence and clark near the community clinic where I used to go for sliding scale care then always to the russian pharmacy down the block where I would wait for my little yellow pills wandering amongst the strange health care equipment while crack smoked people outside maybe I left it in that huge building downtown while the city slept all around having dreams of fire and flesh and fashionable emotion as I worked shifts for that shithead who tried to sell me guns which he’d probably committed crimes with he had me cleaning the empty office showrooms there sullen and full of traces of recent human life lapsing out of the minds eye like an unwelcome premonition did I leave it with that pretty girl living near the red line berwyn stop who enjoyed my company which I wielded like a weapon feeling entitled to her shy acceptance which she already offered like rose petals at my feet maybe I didnt lose it at all not in chicago or anywhere else maybe its just gone like the implied futures on which I based my most structurally flawed decisions
