This Week in Worship When my daughters were growing up, it - TopicsExpress

This Week in Worship When my daughters were growing up, it was not unusual for me to take them with me to various mission projects and work projects the church was doing. One spring when my youngest daughter, Jamie, was eight years old I took her with me to deliver a food box to a family in need. I did not think about where I was going when I loaded her and the box in the car until I turned the corner onto Desire Street. When I started reading the street signs - Pleasure Street, Humanity, Benefit, Treasure and Abundance - it was then that I realized where I was. I had taken Jamie into a part of New Orleans that was known for gang violence, drive by shootings, drug deals, and other sorts of illegal and violent activities. I wasnt sure I wanted to bring my daughter into the middle of this, knowing I was going to have to get out of the car and could not and would not leave her behind to wait on me. I also knew it was going to take two hands to carry the box so I would not have a hand left to hold on to her. So together, side by side, we walked through the housing project near the intersection of Desire and Humanity where we were welcomed in by a delightful couple grateful for the groceries. How often do we find ourselves at the intersection of Desire and Humanity? Where we are faced with the desire for the things we want, and the reality of what others may need. It is a dangerous place to stand, especially as a Christian. As we continue our sermon series on Hope for the New Year we are going to trade in our New Years resolution for the holy habit of Paying It Forward using I Timothy 6:17-19 as our guide. Come join us in worship this week (8:30 traditional and 10:45 Contemporary) Invite someone to join you on the journey, RL
