This Week’s Foundation Thought is About Giving to the Foundation Some think that there is competition in Rotary between supporting local projects and giving to The Rotary Foundation. In fact, the more we emphasize what Rotary does for people through The Rotary Foundation, the more it increases our overall spirit of giving. When a club emphasizes to The Rotary Foundation, most often the club will discover increases in giving to local community services, and greater participation in local hands-on projects because a club that gets into the habit of giving will give more to all causes. – Rotarian Ronn Kerr The following is an excerpt from the article – The Rotary Foundation, THE ROTARIAN, April 1929. “The Rotary Foundation is not to build monuments of brick and stone. If we work upon marble, it will perish; if we work on brass, time will efface it; if we rear temples they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon immortal minds, if we imbue them with the full meaning of the spirit of Rotary as expressed in our Objects and with the just fear of God and love of our fellowmen, we are engraving on those tablets something that will brighten all eternity” Giving to the Foundation is a part of being a Rotarian. Every minute of every day someone’s life is being improved by our Rotary Foundation. Rotary clubs on every continent are working to improve the living conditions and health of their fellow citizens. I know there are many needs in our communities, but I also know that the greatest needs exist internationally, particularly in countries where poverty, disease, illiteracy, and hunger are rampant. You, as Rotarians are helping to change lives around the world by fighting hunger, reducing child mortality, promoting peace and conflict resolution, basic education and literacy, and eradicating polio. Your contributions to the Annual Programs Fund through the Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) initiative are the primary source of funding for the Foundation programs, which cover more than 160 countries and geographical areas on seven continents. Please join me in support of the programs of The Rotary Foundation by making a contribution today. We are asking that each and every one of you; make your commitment to donate $100 to support our Rotary Foundation this year and every year following. This can be done in the following ways: $8.50 monthly starting in July $25 quarterly starting in July $ 100 on your birthday or other convenient time Support the Foundation table cards weekly Every Rotarian: Support The Rotary Foundation Every Week: By placing a $1 on your table card, $2 is better. Every Year: Contribute $100 or more per year to the Annual Programs Fund. Every Rotarian, Every Year: Sustaining Members are critical to the Foundation. If every club member contributed $100 every year, Rotary could nearly double its efforts to help needy people worldwide and support the continued growth of its programs.
