This absolutely beautiful spot only 15 min walk from the centre of Launceston is Cataract Gorge and the lake is known as First Basin. The pool has a shallow kids side and a deeper side for swimming and its free to use. First Basin is surrounded by boulderous cliffs and yes I did go swimming in it up the the weir and falling water. There are a couple of lovely walks up, down and around the waterways and well worth the effort. BYO picnic and its a recipe for a fantastic family day in the great (more like magnificent) outdoors. #discovertasmania
