This afternoon, I discovered a chocolate bar sitting outside its wrapper in the pantry drawer. The haste with which it had been tossed back in was obvious. Both corners were missing and had been replaced with a perfect crescent of teeth marks. All I could do was laugh quietly to myself and wait for someone to share the humor. I showed it to Brandon after dinner. We did the parent laugh thing, and then the following conversation took place-- Brandon: Micah? Do you have something to tell me? Micah: Mmmhmm. When we gonna get some red tomatoes in the garden? Brandon: Huh? No. About the pantry. Micahs shoulders sag. He nods, studies his feet, and heaves a sigh. Micah: *in a tone of defeat* Chocolate. Brandon: When did you eat the chocolate? Micah: I waited until Mama went to Saras room to read to her. Brandon: Buddy, you may not help yourself to the chocolate. You have to ask Mama first. Micah: Ill try. But its just SO good..... I understand, Dude. I really do.
