This afternoon, I had a very sweet experience with my family that felt like a culmination of my most recent tour, and a tribute to the love and effort put forward by each person who was present at the events. All of the events on the tour were very special, and I enjoyed each of them equally, and differently. One thing that made the Chicago event special in particular though, is that after we did the meditation to Heal a Broken Heart in the workshop, each person wrote something down on a piece of paper. After listening deeply during the meditation, to their heart, and their own connection with the divine, they wrote down how, after some poignant experience of heartbreak in their life, their heart broke OPEN. How, in looking back, the experience changed them, allowing them to grow into a more full expression of who they are. Pain is a powerful teacher in our life. Sometimes it seems like there is no way through, and like it will never end. But the truth in those moments is that the divine is orchestrating the most perfect situation! There is ALWAYS a way through, and the pain is usually the very thing that is pushing us to allow our hearts to grow. We have to break, in a sense, a part of us must die, in order for a new part to be born. It is the hands of the divine at work. What we need to develop as conscious people in this time, through our practice, sensitivity, and discipline, is our ability to listen deeply. To hear the voice deep within, whispering the Truth, clearly and lovingly, through the veil of our own doubt and fear. We must follow it. The desire to end the pain is what gives us the fuel we need to follow our own hidden path, as it is revealed... one step at a time. Amazingly, the intensity of the pain ends up giving way to the intensity of the love and joy we find, as we listen, and our hearts grow. We must learn to surrender to this process, and let go. Let go, again, and again, and trust the hands of the divine at work. There lies the truest opening, the bliss of complete trust and joy in living in Truth in our world. Upon reaching home, as promised, I had a little ceremony in my home to burn those pieces of paper on which people wrote about what they became through the process of their heart being broken open in their life. My son, Gobind Singh, helped me burn them as we chanted the healing mantra Ra Ma Da Sa, Sa Say So Hung. Upon finishing the burning, he spontaneously wept, tuning in to the powerful release of so many hearts. It brought tears to my eyes, and inspiration to my soul. What a lesson and a joy. Here are some pictures from the event in Chicago, and also from the paper burning ceremony at home with my family. My dog Baalu was there enjoying also ;) Spirit Rising Foundation Matthew Schoening - Solo Electric Cello
