This afternoon I took a walk. I was asked if I still had the writing bug. I told them it wasnt just a bug or phase . So they gave you an award for writing on a blog Rather than play a numbers game,saying how many stories,articles or poems I have written and published may come off as ego, I said it was more about the impact writing or communication has . Again. What benefit is it to you when no one pays you ? I was so close to asking are you done yattering on now but I bit my tongue . The following was published not here or a simple blog but a national e-zine. I just wish I could have told him how many hits this one got . Ya caint please everyone . The kiwi and penguin and ostrich are just three flightless birds . We look at them in zoos or if we are lucky enough in their natural habitats . Are they of less interest or value than birds that take flight and soar the skies above us . No . I was on the city bus the other day when a young boy maybe 12 or 13 came on the bus wearing two leg braces and using two crutches . He took a seat next to me after taking awhile to sit down . It was no bother to me . A man stood behind him waiting to go to the back of the bus to sit . He let out huge sigh in frustration.. I leaned his crutches up against the window . Across the aisle was a woman sitting with two children ;staring at the boy sitting beside me ‘ like he was on display at the zoo. The two children with her stared too. One of the two was sitting on the seat ; his legs under him getting slush all over the seat . I wanted to stare back and see how uncomfortable maybe it would be for them . One of the children across from where I was sitting said loud enough that I think half the bus could hear. “mommy I am glad I have legs that work and I don’t make people wait to sit down on the bus “ The mother simply agreed “Yes it wouldn’t be much of a life -you are lucky “ I glanced at the boy sitting beside me on the bus to see his reaction . He was looking down at the floor . I wasn’t sure how he reacted . “are you okay “ I asked him “I could have had taken the Mobility Plus bus but I like the regular bus . I can walk ;it just takes me a bit longer and I am used to hearing stuff like that .” No one should have to hear stuff like that . I think we always will . The boy told me he had ; I forget if it was Muscular Dystrophy or Multiple Sclerosis . The mother and her two kids continued to stare . I stared back . The mother looked away and the one boy said “ It is rude to stare mister” “Yeah it is rude to stare and it is rude to say something about things you don’t know anything about too “ I answered back . The mother looked at me then . “Its okay “ the boy beside me said quietly . “I am used to it; it isn’t worth the trouble “ The boy beside me rang the bell to get off the bus and asked me to pass him his crutches . He slowly rose from the seat and walked towards the front of the bus ;stopped and turned and flipped the mother and her two kids the one finger salute. “My fingers work fine . I was born this way . You bred little assholes lady” As much as I would have wished he would have responded in a different matter ; this was probably all to familiar to him . The three across the seat from me didn’t look at anyone but each other for the remainder of the bus ride. . This incident and a few others including gay bashing a young guy compelled me to write this and make this small video . I made this because BULLYING is an epidemic . For every child who suffers at the hands or words of a bully and commits suicide there are an addition 100 to 200 children who attempt suicide. BULLYING can and does lead to DEPRESSION which can and does at times lead to SUICIDE . Some of the images and words I use in this video are harsh but as far as BULLYING is considered; it to is harsh . My belief is that all schools should mandate BULLYING studies into the curriculum .. Not in seventh or eighth grade either; by then it is too late. Primary grades are my personal preference. And it has to be taught in the homes as well . BULLYING DOES NOT JUST OCCUR ON THE SCHOOLYARDS. Name calling is bullying. Gay or questioning youth are at greater odds of being bullied . A six fold chance that they may commit suicide. HOMOPHOBIA is a form of bullying .
