This afternoon I visited the new Shoreditch, as I understand - TopicsExpress

This afternoon I visited the new Shoreditch, as I understand London Road in Brighton is now called. Obviously being a balding middle aged Tory without any facial hair I kept my visit short. In my opinion the new Open Market is brilliant. True to form I avoided the eco-stalls and honed in on the butchers. I got my Christmas Day joint of beef, some streaky bacon (maple cured - naturally) and a game pie (sorry John from Seckers) which I intended to save until Christmas Eve but have already started munching. People keep telling me there are no public toilets at the new Open Market and the Council keep telling me there are. Well all I can say is that if there are public toilets they are kept well-hidden. There is no doubt that London Road is indeed enjoying something of a renaissance (helped in part by Government funding through Portas funding and transport schemes). Legitimate concerns have been raised about gentrification pushing out the poor and to be honest I share that a bit. Go into what I used to call the Hare and Hounds Pub (not sure if the name has been changed) and a pint of lager will set you back over £5! That only confirms for me that there might be a place for a Wetherspoons in the old Co-Op building (and Tim Martin does not mind you using his toilets). The coffee shops are good (be careful you do not trip over the buggies with pneumatic tyres) and for the first time in years I could not small cannabis in Providence Place. I scuttled off after 2 hours (theres no way I wanted the hipsters to realise they had a Conservative politician in their midst) but not before visiting the tallest parish church in the country. It is surely an urban myth that St Bartholomews is based on the dimensions of Noahs Ark, but it is still breathtaking. London Road the new Shoreditch? No not really (but I did someone walking their sausage dog so what do I know?) theargus.co.uk/news/11657546.Ten_reasons_why_London_Road_is_the_new_Shoreditch/?ref=twtrec
