This afternoon I went to the Music Box for their SECOND SATURDAY SILENT MOVIE. I had never seen PICCADILLY (1929) before. Its a fabulous late British silent about a Chinese girl (the lovely Anna May Wong) who works in the kitchen of a big London nightclub but becomes a big star. Jameson Thomas is her rather creepy boss who loves her. The actors name did not ring a bell but then I recognized him as King Westley, Claudette Colberts slimy aviator fiance in It Happened One Night. This film was so much fun! Great art deco, lots of Jazz Age attitude, and a forbidden inter-racial romance. Best of all was Dennis Scott accompanying Piccadilly on the organ!
