This afternoon World Tree took part in the Reepham Societys summer - TopicsExpress

This afternoon World Tree took part in the Reepham Societys summer picnic and tour of Salle church (aka the Magic Church). We were excited as the tour offered a rare opportunity to climb up to the top of the church tower, which we have always wanted to do. As well as wanting to see the views, we also had a professional interest in taking a closer look at the ringing chamber and the bells, as we have been approached about a heritage interpretation project about the history of the bells in another Norfolk church. The climb up the tower was a bit dark and dusty but not too difficult, and the stages on the way up gave us the chance to encounter the enormous bells themselves and the mechanics that have allowed them to ring out from the tower for hundreds of years. A chamber between the bells and the ringers is known as the silence room as it provides a buffer from the deafening peals for the people pulling the ropes. Trevor loves being up on top of the world, but Imogen was slightly nervous about looking out from the parapet of the tower, as she has a bit of a problem with heights. After a minute or two sitting on the lead roof, the amazing landscape views were too much to resist!
