This afternoons coaching session with the CEO of a hi-tech company reinforced the importance of using schema to explain complex concepts. Initially he took about three long sentences to explain what his company does and I was still unclear. Then I got him to try using a schema (what people already understand to explain what people dont): We are like Amazon for technology inventors and technology buyers Its shorter and way more memorable. Since we understand what Amazon is (e-commerce marketplace for buyers and sellers), it becomes effortless to understand what his company does.
