This afternoons nature journaling sampler with Ellen Hopkins 5th graders (Moorhead) included identifying clouds and selecting a large distant item to sketch using a picture frame. We also examined small things with hand lenses and backward binoculars (like white hairs on big bluestem seeds and worm castings). We watched a crow and a huge honking flock of Canada geese with binoculars. This morning we searched for, sketched, and described favorite plants and animals with such detail that the class could accurately guess the favorites. See you next time, naturalists!
