This also affects Asian Americans in general. When you grow up in Iowa, you are able to adjust but when you attend college, people just assume you are an international student. Due to this, they treat you differently, but when they find out you are actually American you then get questions like these: So where are you really from? Can you help me with Calculus? Can you show me how to make eggrolls and rice? Can you teach me how to speak Chinese? People may not realize it, but some times the things you say can be taken with a wrong touch. Especially when it is regarding to culture and personal habits. When people have different perspectives of a topic, there will be clashes, but it takes true courage to understand the other sides viewpoint. When you have succeeded in understanding, you help provide a valuable link between communication and friendship, that helps build a more peaceful world.
