This always fascinates me. Some people claim Frankenstein (my all time favorite book, maybe tied with A Clockwork Orange) was either really written by Percy Shelley or actually written WITH him. The arguments are interesting, and one of the biggest ones I hear is something about how horrible her other books happened to be (which I cannot even claim to know, I dont read them). Supposedly Percy was shunned from the community, and it would have been best for her to publish it under her name. Although, it would have made sense for them to write it together since she was so young (and if a manuscript proves this, then thats interesting). Either way, its literature all should read. In my mind, its actually not always that great to read...it seems kind of bland, but what is missing in the writing is made up in the story of the sad story of Frankensteins monster. Get past the beginning and itll blow your mind. Regardless of who wrote it, when it was written, how it was written, the message still remains clear today, if not even clearer. We must take caution in playing God in science. As you read it make sure you question Frankenstein right after he creates his man. And question the people and really notice what happens. I wont give any of it away, but there is no black and white way to see how they end up in this story. Then, if you want, watch the movie with Kenneth Branagh and Robert De Niro which was entertaining (but not spot on at all). Branagh is just a good actor and De Niro actually makes a good monster. Then watch the original Colin Clive Frankenstein movies, Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein. Frankenstein has nothing to do with the book, but its entertaining. Bride of Frankenstein on the other hand has a bit more to do with it, but not a lot, BUT it focuses a bit on how people treat Frankensteins creation, and how he learns to speak, and how he is not evil, and how Frankensteins abandonment of him and making him look the way he did caused so many problems. So, not exactly like the book, but you get to feel a personal connection to the monster which is what the book does. Its on Netflix, watch it. Plus you get to hear the classic line: youtube/watch?v=rSCBvu_kijo
