This animated video shows how ticks feed and transmit disease. Ticks insert their feeding tube and secrete a small amount of saliva. This saliva has anesthetic properties so that the animal or person cant feel that the tick has attached itself. The tick then regurgitates the blood meal multiple times during the course of the feeding and can remain attached for several days. This regurgitation is how diseases such as Anaplasma, Borrelia(lyme), Ehrlicia, Babesia and Rickettsia(rocky mountain spotted fever)are transmitted.
