This announcement is to inform my fellow Wossman Wildcats who remember Billy Robinson that he has died. Billy was my idol in basketball. A 65 guard that was not very common in the early 70s. I spoke to Coach Sidney Smith last night who said that former NBA champion of the Washington Bullets Larry Wright told him that Billy was the greatest basketball player in the State of Louisiana during that time. Billy played against Larry Wright and his Richwood High teammate and NFL rookie of the year Sammie DooDoo White. When I first saw Billy I was in awe as to his jumping ability. His flare of handling the ball with his signature backward dunks and behind the back moves. That was a time when guys his size wasnt dribbling the ball like that. When Billy would come home from college and I was in high school I made every effort to play with and against him. It was great playing against Wright and White too. There were a lot of professional athletes from Monroe and the surrounding area in Louisiana, that per capita probably more than any place in the USA, but none better than Billy Rob Robinson. After Wossman, Billy attended Murray State College, Kansas State University, and Northwestern Oklahoma State Univ. If he would have remained at Kansas State Im sure he would have been a first round pick. His daughter, Crystal Robinson, had a long career in the WNBA and currently the womens head coach at Murray State College. Funeral services will be held Sunday, 02/02/2014, 1:00 pm at Browns Funeral Home in Atoka, Oklahoma. Thank you Billy. You will be missed.
