This article has been making the rounds, and I keep seeing people posting along the lines of Boo-hoo, poor band, they didnt make any money on tour, what is the world coming to? They seem like such nice smart people. Yada yada yada., but thats just not the case. It really just seems like they didnt tour smart. I cant speak for them as people (I dont know them, have never listened to their music, and had no idea they even existed until I read the article(way to go them for using their budget for some extra exposure.)), but I can take a look at the numbers they posted. Im seeing some HUGE expenses that didnt need to be there and, if taken out, they would have ended the tour in the green. First off, the hotels. $17,589 for hotels and food. Thats insane. Buy a tent, use some rest stops, bring a small camping stove and cook for yourselves. Then theres the salaries and per diems. If youre spending $17,589 on hotels AND food, why in the hell are they giving everybody need an extra $20 a day for food? Thats an extra $3,360. Subtract that from the $48,094 and youre left with $44,734 for salaries. That adds up to $7,908.33 per person over the course of 28 days, or $282.44 per person, per day. That doesnt quite seem on point to me. Now, obviously, Im no industry pro, so I could be completely wrong, but that just doesnt seem like a smart way to tour. Everybody has to get paid, but damn those prices just dont seem right.
