This article is priceless, what I would write if I were an adequate writer. Many dont know, but my two youngest (Ezra-4YO and Stella-2YO) have had extreme freak accidents with almost-tragic results. Because God is sovereign, we are able to sleep at night (though I shake as I type this). At 15 months, Ezra was left in a car on a 109 degree day, at 5pm, for 30 minutes. Frank took the kids to an evening bible school after a busy day, he and the three big kids jumped out and they forgot Ezra who was sleeping in his car seat. Because the car had been running for an hour, it was barely warm when he remembered and sprinted to the car, after a simple its just you and the kids tonight question from Melissa Summers Hurst. Almost two weeks ago, when vacationing in Roatan, Hondouras, I asked Grace, my 13YO, to start the van so it could cool off. It was a standard transmission, which she is very familiar with starting because of Franks mustang. I was starting to load Stella and Ezra on the opposite side when she started it, but for some reason it was in 1st gear without the parking brake on. As the car shot forward, it drug Stella to the ground and rolled over her leg and arm. This was a 12-passenger, diesel van. I was able to grab her before it rolled over her head. After holding and checking her, we ran to our neighbors house to get a second opinion. They personally knew Peggy, founder of Ms Peggys Clinic, the go-to clinic for the residents of Roatan. After making a phone call to Peggy, we raced to the clinic to have her checked out. We were in front of a renowned Pediatrician within minutes, with a newly-arrived Washington DC doctor translating. She suffered a nasty bruise on her leg and some minor scuff marks on her arm. We went to a local church that Sunday where Peggy, Peggys daughter (yet another specialized Pediatrician) and the DC doctor were in attendance (we didnt know any of them would be there). Both pediatricians checked her out after the service and were so excited and pleased with her recovery. Whos ever had that kind of care unexpectedly after church?? If youve ever been to the grocery store, mall, restaurant, where ever with me, youd know I were a freak about my kids holding on to me or me holding them in parking lots. To say Im overzealous is an understatement. So for both of them to have car-related accidents when theyre 1 and 2 is a mystery. If I cant prevent this, what can I prevent? Thats why this article really struck me...if you have kids its a must-read. Because Frank Post and I believe God is in control, we can sleep at night. (Though, frankly, the whole secondary-drowning thing is scaring the crap out of me right now!!) Ive wanted to share what happened to Stella with many friends Ive seen this past week (we got home last Saturday), especially when they ask how our trip was and say theyre so glad were home safe. But I cant bear to re-live the nightmare each time I tell it. So thats why Im posting it here, so you can read it (or not), praise God and move on. God can do all things and accomplish all things. Nothing is too difficult for Him, and He orchestrates and determines everything that is going to happen in your life, in my life, in America, and throughout the world. Whatever He wants to do in the universe, He does, for nothing is impossible with Him (Jeremiah 32:17).
