This article on Lucinda is amazing. It is the most in depth article about her relationship with her father, Miller Williams, and her music I have ever read. Lucindas trip to Fayetteville last month for the Fayetteville Roots Festival was important. She was coming home to see her father. Miller couldnt attend the festival. The rest of her family did however. I saved them 7 seats in the 8th row and showed them to their seats when they arrived at the fest. They were so excited. Lucindas step-mom gave me a big kiss. She was so proud. Lucinda gave a great concert. She and the band were in excellent form. After the show Lucinda gave me a kiss on the cheek, much in the same way her step mom had. She was so proud. She told me We rocked Fayetteville Bryan! We rocked didnt we.. The whole affair felt like a family reunion really. Cousins, uncles, step-mothers came back stage to great her after the show. Lucinda was beaming. Lucinda stayed in town the following week. She called and asked for a music stand so she would play a small show for Miller. (The house concert they talk about in the article) She said we would get drinks. We didnt. I didnt care. Her time in Fayetteville was all about Miller. Her new album is a testament to Miller really. The album came out the week after she left Fayetteville. I could feel that excitement in her. She had come home to spend time with her dad, to rejoice in their relationship to hold on to the excitement of the new album for just a few moments together before it was released to the world. For one week, at one house concert it was their album, they were their songs. Now it is the worlds album the worlds songs. This transfer of music is what makes music amazingly personal and communal all at the same time. It is a beautiful thing to share your music with the world. I am so thankful that Miller shared poetry with Lucinda, that Lucinda chose to share her songs with the world, that she shared her songs with us in Fayetteville, that she came home to be with her family.
