This article really resonated for me. I was one of those problem kids who school officials and doctors probably would have labeled as ADHD if Id grown up today. But I didnt need medication -- I was just bored, and I didnt fit into the traditional school system. What saved me was finding my way to an alternative school, Metropolitan Learning Center (after years of suspensions and bad grades and eventually failing my first year of high school). I talk about this experience often when I visit schools, and I hear from many people (especially scientists and artists) who had similar experiences as children ... Im sure Im not the only one of us who read this sentence and thought, Yes: People with A.D.H.D. may not have a disease, so much as a set of behavioral traits that don’t match the expectations of our contemporary culture.
