During this time he carved out a respected name for himself in American politics and mental-health advocacy. Soon after his father’s death in 2010, he made the difficult decision not to seek re-election to keep his eyes on a larger and more personal goal. That year, he co-founded The Next Frontier Campaign: One Mind for Research. The campaign — and Mr. Kennedy — are dedicated to supporting dramatic enhancements in funding and collaboration in research across all brain disorders.
