This bias of strength experts is just incomplete in so many ways. It is well-known and well-documented for instance that we can strengthen our muscles to provide more force in different ways and expressions. We can work on technique and lifting mechanics to improve training economy - BUT - and this is indisputable -> our tendons and ligaments CANNOT be strengthened the same way - they genetically can handle what they can handle and there is not much you can do to enhance this with training. This is individual and genetic. Some trainees will just have shorter, thicker, stronger, tighter, tendons -> this gives them greater potential for strength training improvements in terms of max lifts. For so many of us - (myself included in my early years) trying to lift max loads only led to injury and frustration. I developed a world-class physique by letting go of that limited way of thinking. (see my book The Abel Approach bit.ly/1um0ixa) - The fact is just because you cant develop a lot of pure strength - doesnt mean you cant develop an incredible physique!
