This big mobile photo/video news this week: Instagram has introduced a new app that allows people to create smooth, pro-looking time-lapse videos, notes Time. The new app, called Hyperlapse, uses image-stabilizing algorithms to transform shaky videos up to 45 minutes long into stable time lapses, creating what the company calls “a cinematic look, quality and feel.” Business Insider compares the effect to that of having $15,000 dollars worth of top shelf video equipment in the palm of your hand. The stand-alone app was developed as a side project on nights and weekends by a small team at Instagram, notes PetaPixel. How big is this going to be? Adweek reports that Instagrammers like Jimmy Fallon rushed out to use it.
