This blog has been bouncing from share button to share button now for the past week called Marriage Isnt For You. Its mostly a good article. The writers meaning was not lost on me- marriage relationships can not focus on you or what you can get from it, but should instead be based on selfless love for your spouse. Im not going to call into question whether or not his premise was good. I like it. But he forgot to mention something of vital importance: “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. Ephesians 5:31-32 ESV Marriage isnt for you. Marriage isnt even for your spouse. Marriage is a picture of the love of Christ in your life. And it is a profound mystery that God has granted us the same kind of relationship between a husband and wife that he has with the Church of believers. Ill speak from a mans point of view, because I just so happen to be a man myself, and the original blogger was a man. The only leader at our head should be Christ, just as we are the leaders of our wives. We are responsible for her. She is ENTRUSTED to us. In another part of the same chapter in Ephesians, in verses 26 and 27, we get a glimpse of our responsibility. Just as Christ purified the Church and made us holy and blameless, so too should husbands, in leading their wives, do everything to guide her and grow with her in faith. And nobody can lead anyone else while standing still. We as men need to choose what direction we lead in-either towards God or away from Him. Ive posted a status about this before. But the marriage relationship and its homologous structure and organization to the relationship between God and the Church is beautiful enough to weigh heavily on my heart. This parallelism is what marriage is for. Not for men, not for women, but for men to lead their wives in a manner that displays Christs leadership, authority and love to the rest of the world. Marriage is a reflection.
