This boy right here. Hes not much of a boy anymore. Hes a young man. His voice is deep, his feet are huge, his muscles are defined. He now looks down at me when he talks, and when he wraps me up in a hug, he feels enormous. The traits of boyhood are fading fast, and most days it seems that only one child, his brother, lives in this house. In three years, he will be a college freshman (hopefully at the same university where he is standing in this photo--GO PACK!), and there really will be just one child in this house. And for some reason, that reality is piercing my mommy-heart this morning. I keep looking at this photo, trying to see that little boy I raised. Feverishly trying to recall the details of countless memories of his childhood, worried that I am forgetting too many. Thinking of all the things I want to do with him before he flies the nest. To my mommy friends who are still in the weeds, who are on the verge of locking yourselves in your closet for 5 minutes of sanity, who are wondering when you will ever get a moment of peace and quiet, wondering what happened to the vibrant woman who once had it together....I feel you. I understand. Remember that this, too, will pass. Years from now, I do not believe that your rough days will be the ones that you remember when you look at your grown child. Youll remember the laughter, the fun, the sweetness, the joy.
