This brought back many memories of my 22 years in the Navy.What you see is eight or more stories above the water here,but there is sixteen stories or more beneath the water. Imagine a 24 or more stories foot building,then you get the size of this thing.It is awesome.Total weight appox. 254,000,000.00 pounds.Two hundred fifty four million pound.Has a crew[number of personnel] of over 5,000 men and women serving aboard her and you never get to meet all of them if you were aboard her for 10 years are more because the crew rotates about every two years are so.This ship is is about 1,100 feet long.They cook twenty four hours each day just to feed the crew when at sea and during General Quarters [battle stations] box lunches must be prepared for just one meal,more if for two or three meals.How would you like a grocer bill for this girl ?The last ship I was stationed on was a guided missile destroyer and even in the late 1978 and 1979s we had the technology to take over the controls of a jet plane while 20 or so miles away from the carrier and land that jet plane on the carrier deck night or day if necessary and that was 35 years ago.What wonders does the modern Navy have today ? I know for one thing some ships are now equipped with lasers that will take out a missile coming their way. GO NAVY !!!
