This came through last month NZWG Writer Funding - TopicsExpress

This came through last month NZWG Writer Funding Announcement The New Zealand Writers Guild is excited to be given the opportunity to develop and administer a new project based initiative that will empower writers to tell their own stories and find their own voice. The proposal will see NZWG administer the allocation of up to ten grants of $10,000 each year for the development of scripts at an early stage. The funding comes from the New Zealand Film Commission, which is keen to see industry organisations take a greater role in helping to identify talent. The NZWG Executive Director and Board are currently developing the process and criteria around which these grants will be allocated. It is our aim to create a fair and transparent model that supports the creation of dynamic, high quality scripts. These grants are part of a series of initiatives that together create an alternative pathway for script development that complements the existing schemes. To find more strong stories, and give this industry its best chance of success, we need to recognize and encourage a variety of different ways to enable writers in their discovery. Some of these will still be through the Film Commission’s development path, some will be producer driven projects, and some will be writer driven projects. If you are interested in contributing to the formation of this initiative then please email: [email protected] and let us know what you think is important. Application dates and criteria will be announced late November.
