This can translate into amal jariah. Remember! This is not just for the grades.! Going through the insect collection assignment that made up 30% of the marks carried over for the final grades. Yes alumni of Fac Agriculture from decades ago will never forget this particular field assignment which we were told were much tougher in those heydays of the School of Agriculture, College of Agriculture and Univ Pertanian Malaysia before it has been renamed Univ Putra Malaysia. In this current syllabus students taking up PLP3104 (Fundamentals of Entomology) students have to come up with 40 different specimens from 8 different Orders of insects of agricultural importance (pest as well as beneficial insects). A number of students really put up a commendable effort in putting together a set of 40 specimens (very few did manage to find 40 from the specified Orders). I believe they should be amply rewarded for the hard work they put in, anyway. Some of these insects will go a long way. The ones that have been properly preserved, labeled and displayed will go to the entomology muzeum for teaching and research purposes. It will be a legacy for the collector and the Faculty of Agriculture because the date, place and collectors name is an integral part of insect specimen label. Talk about amal jariah. We often forget this. Yes its not just for the grades! A big thank you for Mr A. Rajan who has helped students all these years in collecting, preserving and displaying insects for the classical insect collection (IC) exercise. Mr A. Rajan is retiring this year and this is his last semester after 3 decades of service. (Not to forget our other lab staffs En Fadhullah, En Manan tikon, En Salleh Osman, En Hishamuddin and the rest who has been the backbone of our entomology lab classes)
