This church was used as the Delft university Aula in 1923! The Sint-Hippolytuskapel (chapel) on the Oude Delft 118 once belonged to the Delft university campus! Between 1923 and 1966 the chapel was used by students to enjoy their lunch. On the right side of the church you can see het Meisjeshuis Since 1972 the chapel is in use again as a Roman Catholic Chapel. The chapel was built around 1400 in a late gothic architectural style and the arbors have been painted by Jacob Por from Harderwijk. During the reformation in 1572 the chapel had to be stripped, the clock was removed from the tower and the cross on top of the tower had to be replaced by a weather vane. In 1581 the city Delft bought the chapel to use it as a munition storage. Guns, swords and armours were stored in the chapel. In 1923 the church was in bad shape, but luckily the Delft University renovated the church to be able to host the students there. The number of technical students grew, and a bigger Aula was needed. so the university Aula moved to the current building by Broek and Bakema at the Mekelweg 5. Nowadays the chapel is used as a church again. You can go and join a church service! More information:hippolytuskapel.nl/pagina4.html Source: Rijksdienst monumenten, TU Delft archive
