This combination of art and music is beautifully performed. It represents a time when Jews lived in isolation and in poverty. A Shtetl mentality which from a twentieth century perspective, is over idealized. Yes, in many cases, our grand parents came from what is remembered of the ghetto life of the past. some even choose to attempt to relive this way. I wish them well. The difference, today, is Jews living in the West are both integrated into society, and no longer impoverished. In the case of Israel, Jews are in control of the government, but now can fight for their existence, and do just that. Diaspora Jews, yours truly included, support the fight. but living in a state which is under almost continuous attack, while letting others fight the threat to our existence, puts us all back into that 19`th century Shtetl our forbearers struggled to free themselves from. So, enjoy the memory of Shtetl life, but be careful of what you wish for. It could come true, as is threatening today as in a new wave of anti-Semitism in Europe erupts.
