This comes from my friend Josh who shared this with us this morning and I thought that it needed to be seen a little better. Thanks Josh! I feel like there is a strong analogy between hiking in the mountains and our walk in the Christian faith. If you think of the mountain tops as those moments when we are closest to God and the Valleys as those down moments in our lives when we are far from God. When you are hiking in the Mountains, it is not very crowded, except for the touristy areas. You will encoumter plenty of rocks and streams that cross our paths. We must figure out a way past them to continue at times. As you climb up in elevation the air gets thinner making it harder to breathe. It takes lots of effort to gain altitude. When you make it to the top, you can see how far you came and possibly where the next trail leads. You feel great and accomplished like you are on top of the world and could stay there forever, but eventually you must climb back down to find the next trail, which may include others alongside you in your journey that can help you and encourage you along the way. As you start to climb down, you realize it is much easier to descend into the valleys. However, sometimes you come across slippery slopes or loose rocks or steep drop offs. We must watch our step as we navigate our way into the valleys or we might trip and fall, which could lead to serious injuries or even death. Not everything in our lives will be a mountain top experience where we are close to God. Sometimes the path becomes difficult to see or you encounter dangerous obstacles or dangerous animals along the way. You might deal with hunger or dehydration, but it is those times we need to pause and listen to God for guidance towards our next steps on the trails (and trials) of our lives. When we are hungry we must turn to the Bible and to Jesus when we are thirsty. He promises us he will lead us to still waters. He will direct our paths unto righteousness. He will protect us from our enemies (loose rocks, streams, or wild animals that we encounter in our faith). We must remember to follow our guide (Jesus Christ) who knows the trails (path) that is meant for us to take so that we might make it to our destination (heaven and eternity with God). Hopefully we will meet others along the way and all end up helping each other on each persons personal journey through Salvation and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Have a blessed day and remember that no matter where you are in your journey of life, God is there to lead you and he has placed others in your life to help get you to where you need to be. Sometimes you just need to take a moment and orient yourself with your surroundings so that you can see clearly where the next trail is leading you and not get lost at the fork in the trail along the way
