This day in music history: In 1988, Daydream Nation, the fifth studio album by Sonic Youth, was released on Enigma Records. The album was a critical success, ranking high on many best of year-end lists for 1988, finishing second in The Village Voices annual Pazz & Jop Critics Poll. The substantial acclaim earned Sonic Youth a major label record deal with DGC Records. Widely considered to be the bands best work and a significant influence on the alternative and indie rock genres, it was chosen by The Library of Congress to be preserved in the National Recording Registry in 2005.Several promotional singles were released from the album, the first being Teen Age Riot, which charted at #20 on Billboards newly created Modern Rock Tracks chart. https://youtube/watch?v=tPytYrYqDbA
