This day in weather history! In 1879, a windstorm occurred across the Niagara Frontier. Considerable damage resulted from the storm. Signs and chimneys were blown down, roofs carried out, water rose in the Buffalo Harbor about 5 feet above ordinary level. Several boats broke loose from their moorings and collided. Bridges were carried away and several elevators damaged. Ice was driven into the river and harbor and heaped against the breakwaters and piers. Wires of telegraph companies and fire alarms were blown down. No loss of life learned of.
