This day leaves me with a heavy heart. Where was I? I lived in SoCal and working for the West Region VP for United Airlines as the Training and Culture Representative - 23 airports, 8 reservation offices and 6 sales offices was my region. I got home late from Chicago on 9/10 and had planned on flying to SFO on the 0600 on 9/11 - I was too tired and I decided to take a later flight that morning. I watched in horror as I saw the aftermath of the first plane hitting the Towers & then seeing the second one, then the Pentagon and then another in Shanksville, PA. Profound sadness and anger - we had been violated in the worst way and two UA planes were involved. In the days that followed the profound silence of no air traffic, no flow control to SFO were serenely odd. I helped stranded passengers get home. I ended up getting furloughed from my UA job for two months and thanks to my boss, I got my old job back as a supervisor at LAX. I had a boot in both camps, so to speak, and I put on my military uniform in early 2002 and ended up here in DC at the Pentagon. God bless those that perished on that day and since for our freedom.
