This dog came to a clinical day last Thursday with this tumor hanging off its side. To be honest with you, it was without a doubt one of the most awful things I have seen, and to make it worse the poor soul had been carrying this attached to her body for years. The owner said she had no money and had been told to put the dog down, after looking in this 8 year old dogs eye and watching her loving gaze up at her owner, I spoke with Dr. Monto about how to best approach this dogs plight and end her suffering. The decision was made to remove this tumor which weighted slightly over 4 pounds the next Wednesday. The dog had also never been spayed which we insisted on and had mammary gland tumors on her right side. After a grueling 2 hour surgery during which Dr. Monto did some awesome cutting and piecing back together of this old girls side and tummy, she woke up wagging her tail and happy to see her Mama. There was no money for lab tests so we sent her home on antibiotics, pain meds, and after care instructions. She walked out the door for the first time in years a normal dog and not a freak that people started at and were afraid to touch. This sweet girl deserve that and hopefully will be much more comfortable and accepted for the rest of her life. Yes another no pay procedure for the Sanctuary but a happy result for a wonderful little dog. And another amazing surgery by Dr. Monto assisted by Ben.
