This drives me nuts. We will not default if the debt ceiling is not raised. For anybody unsure of how this works here is the long and short of it - if we do not raise the debt ceiling we simply cannot borrow any more money. All previously approved debt goes on down the road being funded. We simply cannot add more debt to it. That also means that new debt will require cuts somewhere else. The next time these idiots cry "DEFAULT, DEFAULT, DEFAULT" ask them a simply, straight forward question: "Does this mean that the government will stop taking my tax dollars?" Want to guess what the answer will be. No, the taxes will keep rolling in my friends. It is interesting though. The fact that the Democrats have decided to roll the CR fight into the debt ceiling shows their fear on this. They are effectively loosing the battle over the continuing resolution. The Democrats recognize the monumental nature of the looming battle. In all of this the thing that bears the most mention is that someway, somehow, the Republicans seem to have found a spine. This is earth shattering. If the Republicans actually hold the line they will force a fundamental shift away from the leftist path we are now beholden to. Boehner is correct when he says this fight had to come sooner or later. I suspect that we may have finally reached the line in the sand. Everything from the Benghazi cover up to the Immigration legislation (yes - it still exists) to Syria and the run up to war will potentially come down to dollars and cents. What is the old saying - "follow the money". That is exactly what we have here. The greatest leftist agenda still requires cash. If the money stops everything stops. Somehow the Republicans seem to have figured this out. So my friends, it appears as though we may have come to the end of it. If the leftists lose the money battle to a group of Republicans they long since thought broken they will lose everything. All of their gains and advances of late will vanish. That is what we face now. Will the leftists surrender the fight? I think not. Yet, I am not convinced the Boehner will cave, We certainly see the Senator Cruz has no plans to go away. Now, before you go looking for icicles in hell remember this - we are on a path set long ago. All of the things we have lamented and decried had to come to a head sometime. We have watched as liberty after liberty has been trampled and swept away. I, for one, never thought it the fight over money that brought us to this point. Guess it pays to watch history. It is always the fight over money that finally brings revolution. Only this time it will bring global revolution and a global throne. That is the nature of the things we witness today. Lucius Sulla
