This evening I attended the September Monthly Meeting of Waterford - TopicsExpress

This evening I attended the September Monthly Meeting of Waterford & City County Council. Did you know all documents relevant to our meetings can be viewed online? A brief summary of some pertinent points of the meeting are as follows; In the discussion of the Management Report for September I raised the issue of no Anti Social Officer available for the summer months and complimented the Council on ensuring continuity in a Red Kettle through working with Little Red Kettle & Central Arts. I requested that support be ongoing, fair & equal to both in ensuring a high quality Red Kettle replacement emerges. Points to note in the report, 70% of households on the social housing list are waiting for less than 3 years & 7 houses were allocated in August. The construction of 61 Units is underway in St Johns College. 85% of the Road works programme for 2014 is complete with the Quays work to be completed by November. Coastal repair works are planned for Passage East & Dunmore East. The Kilmeaden to Bilberry section of the Waterford to Dungarvan Greenway has received €1.1m under the Government Stimulus Package 2014. The Dunmore East & Cheekpoint Sewerage Schemes have a completion date for 31/12/14. The new Customer Care Desk in Bailys New Street is dealing with in excess of 150 people a day! The Local Enterprise Office so far this year have met 179 clients and have given support totalling €756,945. In accordance with The Local Government Reform Act 2014 the Cathaoirleach Cllr James Tobin was by resolution given the title Mayor of Waterford City & County and a protocol document for him and the Mayor of Waterford Citys roles adapted. An event close to my own heart, The 1848 Tricolour Celebration was recognised as a significant City & County event. I was delighted to be appointed as a member of The Economic Development & Enterprise Strategic Policy Committee as per my preference submitted and I have to compliment Cllr Pat Fitzgerald on requesting that representative from the Fishing Industry be included on the sectoral representatives. I supported motions for implementation of 24/7 Cardiac Cover, protection of jobs of Waterford based bus employees, standardisation of speed ramps and payments not to be taken from householders until water metres installed. The meeting lasted approx. 2.5 hours with The Metropolitan Area Meeting next on Monday.
