This evening I did something I rarely do. Noticing a theatre in Gallup, New Mexico was premiering the new movie Interstellar at 9:30 PM local time, I stopped and got a ticket to the premier. I havent done that in a very long time. Coming from a kid that took three years of college bound Astronomy, that grew to read and decipher complicated navigation charts for a massive ship at sea, in the days way before computerized GPS technology, I must say this movie really struck a chord with me. It reminded me of just how insignificant we really are as humans when applied to the vastness of the cosmos. We are very good at destroying our beautiful little blue marble here in the ethos. We do it a little bit more every second of every passing day. Just like a big red straw in a super big gulp fountain soda pop, someday we are going to suck on that straw, and the life giving essence of our home in the cosmos is going to most certainly give that awful gurgling sound, and there will be no more life left to give. You see relative beauty and calm in your comfort zone in a very safe and secure country. I have personally seen such places right here on earth with my own eyes, where such things are not to be taken for granted. I have personally tasted the wretched dust of starvation of African nations sucked dry by overpopulation, dust from strata that has no more life left to give, yet still, an overpopulated planet demands more, More, MORE! Relativity, quantum physics, exotic missions to save the future of mankind by a handsome actor..... All of it looks good in the movies.... Reality dictates to me, there is very likely not going to be any beautiful people to save the day, not if but when that day comes. Great performance by a guy who finally got off the beach, put his shirt on, and here as of late, has been turning in some truly great, remarkable, thought provoking performances, of which this indeed is one. Quite a story here. Dont be in a hurry. It was a full three hours long, and to anyone who is interested in the subject matter, it is engaging all the way through.
