This evening, I had the privilege to come back again to my Alma - TopicsExpress

This evening, I had the privilege to come back again to my Alma Mater, Mississippi State University, and speak with a group of seniors who are seeking careers in the biomedical engineering industry. When I speak to students, I attempt to share the following points: 1. While I appreciate my degree, my degree doesnt make me great or define who I am. Fame, popularity, and/ or status is ever fading. The rich person has the same grave as the poor. Serving and giving make people great. (Mark 10:45) 2. My journey doesnt have to look like my neighbors journey. God made the world diverse. Each of us have different talents and interests. Psalm 139:14. When I was in college, I discovered that I learned in a different way from my fellow cohorts. So, during my final two years of undergrad, I spent much of my time in the library reading and learning about things I enjoyed and loved. It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. 3. If we live long enough, life will happen to all of us. In my third year of college, a lot of things began to happen. My physician and I discovered that I had a rare autoimmune, but non-life threatening medical condition. As a result of this condition and other things, I had a very difficult time sleeping. I remember telling my mama that I wanted to quit school because I had a hard time focusing on my studies while dealing with the aforementioned things. I didnt quit. Even though it was difficult, I finished what I started. Amen
