This evening I watched a TV production, “Song by Song”. Tonight’s episode was about Sheryl Crow and her song, “Are You Strong Enough To Be My Man?” Sheryl and this particular song have long been favorites of mine. After hearing the personal story behind it tonight, both are even more of an inspiration to me now. Sheryl took a chance and put personal emotion into her music. She was authentic and put it out there for all to see. I admire that! Occasionally I try to do the same with my art... my life. I wear my emotions on my sleeve, and sometimes verbalizing helps me sort things out. I’m wired that way, I don’t like living secrets or lies. If it stays with me long enough, that’s when it shows up in my art. Recently some of my art has reflected that kind of emotion. It’s different enough from a majority of my art that it causes concern from some of my close friends. That’s not my intent. It’s probably my most heart felt art. And I can imagine a day this kind of art will become a greater part of what I do. That will make me Strong Enough.
