This evening I went to a thoroughly entertaining mini-party organised by Hove Business Association hovebiz/ to celebrate their very successful Christmas Shopping Trail. Starting out at the Revival Coffee Company (now under the enthusiastic ownership of Kevin Baldock, who many will know as the manager of Moss Bros for the last 8 years) with drinks and pastries, we then boarded a specially charted bus (thanks B&H Buses) for a tour of all the shops who took part. Feedback indicates that like for like sales in the independent shops were up this year - all beating Tesco, Sainsburys and M&S. The draw for the prizes took place on the top deck of the bus, and the tour culminated in an impromptu visit to Sam the winner of the £500 cash prize. She was presented with it on her doorstep by Gill Humphrey, Chair of HBA, and it was hard to imagine a more deserving winner. PS I confess to having a glass of wine on the top deck of the bus - but I gather this was allowed as it was a special charter.
