This evening we had our fire department meeting in Rogersville. - TopicsExpress

This evening we had our fire department meeting in Rogersville. Eighteen (18) Firefighters were present. The prevailing common theme as I look around the room was the age of our local volunteers. I would speculate to say the average age in the room was 20-30 years old. We have firefighters as young as 16 (our cadet program) as well as firefighters in their 40s and 50s. That got me to thinking. Im celebrating 31 years this year with the Rogersville VFD. However there were many great men that came before me who laid the foundation for the great department we had today. Men such as Chief Haraway, Cheif T.O. Norton, Chief James Oneal Embry. Mean such as my dad Wayne Lentz, Elwood Phillips, Roland Ezell, Pee Wee Melton, Billy French, Jerry Grisham, Ross Palmer, Gary Cosby, Norman Masonia, Charles Hardy and many others. These are just a few that come to mind. This is what makes our community so great. Good men working for the community. Im glad to be a part of this organization. Our roots run deep. From the late 1940 to 2014. The tradition continues.
