This fantastic note is from a teacher at Ricks School at the University of Denver, Denver, Colorado. We have been posting the poems from the children once a month - they are a great reminder that thanks to our supporters we are making a difference!! I just wanted to let you know that the students read the Rising Above booklet today. We read it together whole class, and when we finished the story, the students clapped. At that point they wrote a poem about the subject titled “When I’m a Tuskegee Airman.” Their perspective on the topic is amazing for such young minds. Thank you for making these materials available for the kids and for expediting the shipping to make today’s lesson possible. When I get to be a Tuskegee airman I will aim high by never letting other people tell me what to do. I will believe in myself by always pushing myself to greater expectations. I will use my brain to become well-trained by the general. I will be ready to go by being in my plane. I will never quit. I will expect to win by shooting down many enemy planes. My eyes will burn when there is a hit. I will smell the exhaust coming from a destroyed Nazi plane. I will taste the smoky air as I fly by in my P-51 Mustang, and I will feel the plane shaking as I break the sound barrier when I am a Tuskegee airman. By: Q.H. These gems are only .50 each plus s/h! Be sure to order a copy for yourself and plenty to hand out! redtail.org/product/rising-above-lessons-learned-from-the-legendary-tuskegee-airmen-a-set-of-20-booklets/
