This fellow in this video has managed to poetically and eloquently put into words, in less than 4 minutes, my greatest bugbear with modern life. It leads on from a lengthy conversation I had at the weekend regarding peoples insatiable lust and love of all things social media. I did write a great big long status about what annoys me, how I hate you all and how I think I was born into the wrong generation, but I just deleted it as my attention span didnt stretch that far! :) I will say this though. Most of you that watch it wont change a single thing about your lifestyle. You wont put your phones down and interact with someone directly. You will continue to post and discuss personal dramas and traumas on Facebook, then get shitty with people when they stick their nose in your business. You wont learn to appreciate the joy of silence. You wont be able to bask in the happiness that sitting in someones company, uninterrupted, brings. You will be able to go to that gig youve been looking forward to and you will watch the whole thing through your phone screen as you record it. You wont experience the joy of looking at your best friend, as your favourite band come on stage and play your favourite song, and see that the joy in their eyes matches the euphoria you feel inside... because youll be too busy taking a selfie (you cunt!) You will continue replacing the excitement and anticipation that comes from having a night out with vacuous selfies and funny videos. You will continue to measure your own self worth and value against that of others. And youll constantly complain that you dont have enough time to do all of the things that you want to do. The worst of it all? This generation of children, my children, your children, your nieces and nephews, wont know a world any different to the one in which we live in now. And this is why I hate you all. Also, I know its ironic to post this on Facebook. I dont give a shit.
