This first photo was taken one year ago today-late at night- at the urgent care where Natalie was diagnosed with pneumonia. Within four days her skin inside & out & internal organs were severely blistered & shedding & she was admitted to Childrens Hospital of Wisconsin & diagnosed with Stevens Johnson Syndrome...either a reaction to the meds for the pneumonia or a reaction to the pneumonia itself. She fought so hard & a year later is leading a relatively normal twelve year old life. She has lasting issues, but she takes it for what it is & doesnt let it get her down. The hardest thing to hear for me was when the doctor said Theres nothing we can do to stop this, and its either going to get better or it isnt. I will *never *ever forget that. But I went back in the room & right then & there Natalie Engeriser & me made a deal. I asked her to promise me to just do whatever it takes, whatever they ask...& she didnt hesitate a second & pinky promised immediately & she never broke that promise & there was some HARD shit she had to endure, trust me. She didnt know then how sick she really was, I dont think & that was a good thing Im sure. But now she knows what shes conquered & is an advocate at her tender age. I couldnt be more proud. ..& I cannot believe its been a year!!!!
